We joined Zhou Qi, 7'2 big man from China, as he worked out in Chicago and Dallas in preparation for the 2016 NBA Draft.

DraftExpress was present at two workouts for Zhou Qi recently in Chicago and Dallas, just days before he is expected to return to China to join the senior national team in their preparation for the Rio Olympics this summer.

Measuring over 7-foot-2 in shoes with a 7-7 ¾ wingspan that ranks among the longest ever seen at an NBA combine or predraft setting, Zhou has the interest of franchises selecting in the mid- to late first round because of his mobility, soft shooting touch and rim-protection ability.

Zhou, DraftExpress' No. 26 prospect, led the Chinese Basketball Association in blocks per game and per minute this year, comfortably edging out former NBA players Samuel Dalembert, Greg Oden, Dominic McGuire and Jerome Jordan with 3.2 blocks in 34 minutes per game. He also added 15.8 points and 9.8 rebounds, shooting 60 percent from the field and 76 percent from the free-throw line. His ability to stretch defenses beyond the three-point line, while providing a shot-blocking presence in the paint, is coveted in today's NBA.

He has been working out in the States for the past two months in Dallas and Phoenix, and is currently traveling to different cities to work out for NBA teams privately before heading back to China on May 26. Zhou worked out in Boston and Memphis after the NBA combine, and has two more visits scheduled with teams on the West Coast before departing.

Zhou's representatives expect to reach an agreement with the Chinese Basketball Federation to allow him to join the NBA in the near future, which should boost his draft stock. The plan is for him to work with an English tutor in China, work out and focus on his nutrition to help him prepare him for the rigors of the NBA. He has a significant following in China and is considered the best prospect to emerge in the country in some time.

His main challenge in reaching his potential is to add bulk to a lanky frame that weighed just 218 pounds at last week's combine.

2015 Nike Hoop Summit: International Practice: Day Three

Zhou Qi sat out for the second straight day due to an ankle injury he suffered at the conclusion of the first day's practice. While many scouts are enamored with the length, high skill-level and excellent timing as a shot-blocker of the 7-2 Chinese big man, his incredibly frail 209 pound frame is a huge concern, and the injury Qi suffered so early in the week did nothing to dispel that.

Zhou Qi
Height (w/ shoes): 7-2
Weight: 209
Wingspan: 7-6 1/2
Hand Width: 10
Hand Length: 9 1/2
Standing Reach: 9-6 1/2
Country: China

-One of the tallest players measured at the Hoop Summit all-time, Qi's wingspan ranks among the 25 longest in our extensive database. He ties for the longest hands of any player on the World Team with George Lucas. His 209-pound frame remains the biggest question-mark regarding his NBA potential as he is painfully skinny at this stage and has a narrow frame that might not have great potential for growth. John Henson (7-5 wingspan, 9-4 standing reach, 216 pounds) seems to be the best body comp we can find for Qi, even if the Chinese big man towers over him at 7-2 (Henson is 6-10 ½ in shoes).

Strengths:
-Has great size at over 7-feet tall
-Long arms
-Very mobile for his size
-Excellent hands
-Versatile offensive player
-Shows decent footwork and post moves
-Makes turnaround jumpers with soft touch
-Can make a mid-range jump-shot. Shows range out to the 3-point line
-Converted 85% of his free throws at the U17 World Championship
-Can attack slower centers from the mid-post off one or two dribbles
-Solid passer
-Very good timing as a shot-blocker

Weaknesses:
-Extremely frail. How much will his body fill out?
-Lacks the strength or toughness to take advantage of his size consistently inside the paint
-Struggles to establish deep post position. Shies away from contact
-Has a difficult time finishing when an opponent puts a body on him
-Rarely boxes out on defensive glass. Doesn't go out of his area for loose balls
-Very passive offensively. Doesn't call for the ball or show any real emotion
-Activity/effort level is average. Doesn't run the floor willingly. Looks a bit lazy/apathetic at times

Outlook: One of the most talented international prospects in the 1996 class. Extremely gifted 7-footer with tremendous versatility and an advanced offensive game for his age. Shows good timing defensively. Very productive at the junior level. Mental makeup is a bit of a question mark. Doesn't show great passion for the game. Sometimes looks like he's playing because he's tall and talented, not because he enjoys it. Still extremely young both age-wise and physically, so has plenty of time to continue to develop.
