Among the most productive guards in the UAA each of the last two years, Jahvon Quinerly out of Hudson Catholic (NJ) is shooting a remarkable 60/50/85 through 8 games while also dishing out assists at an elite rate.  A creative playmaker who continues to make strides with his pick and roll prowess, Quinerly has taken his game to another level in large part due to the improvement of his jump-shot. He's playing the game with superb confidence and poise, and making a very strong case for himself as one of the top point guards in this class.

Jahvon Quinerly, 6'1, 163, Point Guard, 17.7 years old, Hudson Catholic (NJ) 2018

Class of 2018 point guard Jahvon Quinerly had two strong showings in the scrimmages leading up to the Elite 24 game. At 6'1, 163 pounds, Quinerly's body and frame are on the slighter side but he plays with a sense of toughness that compensates for the size and strength he currently lacks. He plays with a calm demeanor, and already has an advanced feel for the game from the point guard position, recognizing when to score and when to be a distributor. He's smooth with the ball in his hands, and can break down the defense off the bounce or play out of ball screens. He's not the most explosive athlete and given his size he is often forced to finish around the basket with floaters and other creative finishes. He's got an impressive ability to knock down shots off the catch or off the dribble, a unique skill for someone who is just a junior in high school and also has the ability to score the ball in other ways. He's a competitor on the defensive end of the floor, and has great instincts getting into the passing lanes, which he showed with the five steals he had in the Elite 24 game.

Quinerly still has two more years of high school basketball under his belt before he enters the college ranks, but he's a smooth and skilled point guard with a great feel for the game who has all the makings of an effective college player. A little bit old for his class, Quinerly will turn 20 shortly after he plays his first game as a college freshman.
