After failing to qualify academically for the NCAA this season, Chris Braswell (unranked Scout, #78 Rivals) is back for another year at Hargrave Military Academy. His body language seems improved from what it was a year ago, and his effort level and approach to the game in general are both more consistent. With a very strong 6'8 body, while being a year or two older than the rest of his class, Braswell should be able to make an immediate impact for Charlotte (after decommitting from Georgetown) next season in a workmanlike role.

Here he did most of his damage in the painted area, scoring quite a few baskets in transition or off passes cutting through the lane, though showed some flashes of post moves as well, with hook shots and turnaround jumpers. His post awareness isn't great, sometimes fading away when he'd create a better shot attempt going strong to the basket, but with his good hands and positioning, he gets the job done. He showed some nice flashes on the defensive end as well, helping on the weak side, drawing a charge, and using his body in the paint and on the glass, though he did appear to just go through the motions at times.

Although this probably wasn’t the best game he ever played today, Chris Braswell again did a nice job showing off fairly versatile skill set for a post player. Braswell got most of his points in the paint, where he showed his ability to go out and create his own offense thanks to his combination of quickness and solid footwork. He doesn’t have a problem making a living in the post, and did a great job getting his hands on a ton of balls around his area to nab his team quite a few extra possessions. He has outstanding hands and very nice touch around the hoop, and at one point even stepped out and drained a 17-foot jump-shot, further adding intrigue to his already impressive profile. Braswell played a lot harder almost the entire way through today, running the floor better, communicating with his teammates, calling out screens, and trying to take some charges even. You still get the impression from observing his body language that he’s a bit on the lazy side and probably not the smartest player in the world, but the coaching staff at Georgetown should be able to get quite a bit out of him at the collegiate level if he’s willing to be coached.

It was the tale of two halves for Braswell, as he started out the game on the lethargic side only to finish the contest strong. In the first half, he was easily frustrated by his lack of touches in the post and it effected all other aspects of his game. The future Hoya did not defend, run the floor, rebound, and displayed a terrible demeanor throughout the half. He finished the first stanza with a mere 2 points and 2 rebounds, looking more like a low major division one player then one who is expected to come in and contribute immediately in the Big East.

Different half, different story for Braswell. Hargrave came out and immediately got their star big man touches in the paint, which he converted on with a flurry of post moves. His soft touch was exhibited through a series of tip-ins and touch catches, a testament to the feathery paws he owns. Braswell was incredibly active, making his presence felt on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor, finishing the game with X points and X rebounds.

Motivation is a key issue with Chris, evidenced by his inconsistent play over the years. When motivated, he is one of the better scoring big men on the prep level. When he is just going through the motions however, he appears to be quite an average prospect. John Thompson III and his staff have proven that they are able to get the most out of their big men, so don’t be surprised to see Braswell step in and contribute right away once he reaches campus at Georgetown.
