Coaches vs Cancer Classic Continues

The Coaches vs Cancer Classic continues today. Neither game yesterday was particularly exciting, but Vermont looked impressive against New Orleans. Granted New Orleans isn’t a tournament caliber team, but Vermont still looks like they might be able to put up a fight against Maryland tomorrow, who breezed by Hampton in their first game. A win for Vermont would be huge. It would be a quality win on their resume and that would come into play as far as being a high point on their NCAA Tournament resume come March. It would also most likely guarantee them two more games against high quality opponents assuming that Michigan State, Texas and Saint John’s all advance to the semifinals. The winner of this region would most likely face Saint John’s in the semis, who appears to be the most beatable opponent out of the four “good” teams, so it is a tremendous opportunity for the Catamounts of Vermont today.

Michigan State’s region gets underway today. They will face Brown, who is an up and coming Ivy League team, but not really in a position to give Michigan State any sort of scare. The winner of that game will face the winner of Youngstown State vs Central Michigan, both of whom were among the 40 worst teams in div1 last season. The winner of this region will face the winner of the Texas Region in the semifinals.
