Call-Up #4: Andre Brown Added to Sonics

Call-Up #4: Andre Brown Added to Sonics
Jan 04, 2007, 09:18 pm
Andre Brown will sign a 10-day contract with the Seattle SuperSonics tomorrow, according to sources close to the situation. Brown is the fourth D-League player to be added to an NBA roster this season. He will be in uniform on Saturday night as the Sonics play on the road against the Golden State Warriors.

Brown appeared in 16 games for the Sioux Falls Skyforce this season, averaging 21 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 65% from the field. He was 4th in the D-League in scoring this season, and 5th in rebounding, and was just recently named D-League player of the month in December. He will add athleticism and rebounding to the depleted front line of the Sonics and could compete for minutes right off the bat due to the numerous injuries Seattle has suffered. Brown is 25 years old, and has no prior NBA regular season experience. He played in the Rocky Mountain Review over the summer with the Spurs, and spent veteran’s camp with the Atlanta Hawks after playing in Korea the year before.

The addition of Brown may bolster Seattle’s front line enough for them to send rookie center Saer Sene to the D-League.

The Sonics cut two former D-League players in Andreas Glyniadakis and Desmon Farmer today. Had they kept the two players past tomorrow, their contracts would have become guaranteed for the rest of the season. Farmer is contemplating the possibility of returning to the D-League upon his contract clearing waivers, and could look strongly at returning to play at Tulsa where he spent last season and formed a strong relationship with head coach Joey Meyer and the top point guard in the D-League, Will Conroy.

The attraction of participating in front of numerous NBA decision makers, including GMs, Directors of Scouting and Player Personnel Directors (as well as DraftExpress...) at the D-League showcase from the 15th-17th of January in Sioux Falls is appealing to recently cut players from what we are told. Don't be surprised to see recently waived players such as Farmer, Chris McCray, Stevie Graham, Steven Smith, Cedric Bozeman and others latch on with a D-League team in the next few days once they clear waivers.
